Good afternoon. Here’s the headlines past midday.
1. Mary Lou McDonald
Mary Lou McDonald, Sinn Fein TD has stated that she rejects findings provided by the Dail committee on Procedure and Privileges, that stated she abused parliamentary privilege by naming politicians investigated for the Ansbacher banking scandal.
Those that were named by McDonald, many being former prominent politicians and bankers, have now denied the allegations.
The TD stated her actions had been in the interest of the public however if it ended that the individuals did not have offshore accounts, she would then not have a problem apologizing to them.

2. Death in Slovenia
A 20 year old student from Colaiste Dhulaigh has died whilst on a kayaking trip in Slovenia.
Conor Keleghan, from Coolmine, Blanchardstown got into difficulty in the Soca River on Sunday afternoon.
The Department of Extramarital Affairs are providing consular assistance to the remaining students who were on the trip. They are expected to arrive home within the next 24 hours.

3. Belfast Murder
A 26 year old man has been remanded in Custody in Belfast, Northern Ireland after being in court in relation to murdering a man whose body was discovered in a car boot.
The man, Wesley Vance from county down appeared before Newtownards magistrates’ court this morning.
A 23 year old, Kyle Neil was stabbed numerous times before his body was placed in the boot of a Ford Fiesta that was discovered on Sunday morning in South Belfast.

4. Water Charge Protest
The deputy mayor of Fingal has said that the organisers of a anti-water protest in Swords yesterday are to blame for the injuries of one of the protestors.
Videos went viral yesterday of a woman whose face was left bloodied after being in an altercation with gardai.
But the Fine Gael councillor Ted Leddy believes that the gardai were not to blame for the incident and said he was disgusted with the anti-garda smears.

5. Ireland’s Ancient East
A new tourism initiative has been launched in the East of Ireland today by the Minister for Tourism Paschal Donohoe.
It’s called Ireland’s Ancient East and is the East Coast’s answer to the The Wild Atlantic Way.
It will stretch from the Boyne Valley in County Meath to County Cork and will bring attention to places such as the Wicklow Gaol and Waterford’s Viking Quarter.
