Your Morning Headlines – 11/02/2016

Good Morning.

Here are the morning headlines.

1.Luas Strike

The Luas is on strike in Dublin and will not be running today or Friday,  affecting approximately 100,000 commuters

The strike is being held as a result of staff demanding improved pay and conditions.

Further shutdowns are to be expected in March as well.

For now customers are advised to use alternative travel options.

With the normal Luas services resuming on Saturday.

2.Jason Corbett Murder Trial

Molly Martens Corbett and her father pleaded not guilty today in the murder trial concerning the death of Limerick man Jason Corbett.

The daughter and father, both of whom are not in jail after posting bond last month, are facing the charges of second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in the death of the 39-year-old.

Corbett died in august from blunt trauma from a ball bat and a landscaping stone, according to the autopsy report.

3.Minibus Crash

Police say six people have died after a school minibus crashed into a truck near Rochefort in western France.

Local media reports described all those killed in the crash as “pupils”, though this was not confirmed by police. Others are reported to have been badly injured.

This came almost exactly 24 hours after a boy aged 12 and a girl aged 15 were killed when a driver of another school bus lost control in snowy conditions near Montflovin.

4.South Korea Missile Crisis

South Korea has began operations to shut down the joint factory park situated in North Korea’s western border city of Kaesong.

The decision follows Pyongyang’s recent nuclear testing including long range missile launching in the region.

Since opening in 2004 Kaesong has been a forerunner for relations between the two countries while in April 2013 North Korea shut down the complex for four months on account of staged military drills taking place.

5.Attempted Rape In Australia

Two European backpackers escaped an attempted rape and murder on a remote Australian beach after a man attacked them with a hammer and drove over them.

The women, both in their 20s and reported by local media to be European, were attacked at Tea Tree Point, an isolated beach in South Australia on Tuesday afternoon .

Their attacker was a 59-year-old Australian man who hit one of the women over the head with a hammer during the ordeal, while the other woman was hit with a car.
