* Homeless Protest

The latest figures on homelessness released by the Departments of the Environment show that 85 families were made homeless last month. To discuss these figures, Leandro Pondoc spoke to Francis Doherty, Communications Officer at the Peter McVerry Trust, and began by asking why the Peter McVerry trust is calling for the homeless crisis to be declared a national emergency.

* Dublin Syringe Bins

Dublin City Council have announced plans to install drug syringe bins across Dublin city. To discuss these plans, Lisa O’Donnell spoke to Tony Duffin, director of the Ana Liffey Drug Project. She started off by asking him to describe these bins and what their purpose is.

The Irish Postmasters Union this week held a protest over changes to issuing social welfare payments. Lisa O’Donnell spoke to General secretary of the Union, Ned O’Hara, and began by asking him to explain to details of the changes.

With nurses in Cork University Hospital considering industrial action, Leandro Pondoc spoke to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organizations Mary Rose Carroll to find out more. He began by asking why nurses in CUH are considering taking the route of industrial action.

* NUIG Gender Quotas

As a way of increasing the number of female academics in senior positions, mandatory gender quotas are being proposed in NUI Galway. Leandro Pondoc spoke to NUIG professor, Micheline Sheehy Skeffington, who last year won a key Equality Tribunal case against the university, and I began by asking her what lead to this inquiry on gender quotas in NUIG.
