Ciara Ní Ghabhann was appointed today (March 2, 2010) as news director of DCUfm. She replaces Steve Conlon who resigned last month.
Ciara is from Corofin, Co. Galway, and is a second year student of the Journalism degree. She is a Connacht Rugby fanatic, and has written for websites in Ireland, the UK and Australia. Ciara previously worked at Flirt FM’s NUI Galway studios on the Flirt Over Coffee and Death Before Disco programmes. She became involved in DCUfm in 2008 as a member of the news team, working on both bulletins and news programmes.
She said: “I’m delighted to start the new job in DCUfm. The news team has already achieved a lot this year and the people on it are brilliant. DCUfm News has proven itself to be reliable and up-to-date and has broken several stories of national importance. I’m looking forward to building on this and developing the station’s already strong news output.”
Alan Regan, Deputy Station Manager, said: “Ciara is a loyal, hard-working member of the DCUfm team and is a talented journalist. She brings a wealth of experience to the position and we look forward to working with her on developing the strong position which DCUfm News enjoys. She’s a great all-rounder, as her prowess on the rugby pitch shows!”
