Denis McEvoy – Station Manager

23-year-old Laois man Denis is a final year undergraduate student of Journalism.

In November 2008 he joined DCUfm as producer of The Mailbox, a weekly interactive chat show. He soon moved to the Current Affairs Show, and worked there as producer and presenter.

Denis was elected as station manager in April 2009. His roles include maintaining the high quality of DCUfm’s programmes, managing the station’s technical operations, and developing systems and procedures for staff to follow.

He has previously been published on the front page of the Irish Examiner and has also written for the Leinster Express.  Denis is a former student of the BSc in Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast. Since 2006 he has worked as a manager at the Electric Picnic festival, overseeing bar operations.

Vanessa Monaghan – Deputy Station Manager

Vanessa Monaghan, known to her friends, enemies and Mum as Nessy, is a third year Multimedia student.

Her roles include creating the station schedule, liaising with staff, completing station rosters, and maintaining the studio computer software. Nessy also presents and produces Culture Café, an arts and music show on DCUfm. Nessy has worked in other stations and recently co-hosted a show on Hot Country with the legendary Simon Young.

Nessy also works in the music industry with some of the biggest names in Ireland and international Grammy nominated stars. She’s also no stranger to working both sides on the microphone as a qualified sound engineer. Nessy finds time to sleep somewhere inbetween all her endeavours and is also currently presenting on three other online radio stations. Track her at her website: www.nessymon.com.

Alan Regan – Assistant Station Manager

Alan (21) is from Carlow and is a third year student of the BA in Journalism.

He began working on DCUfm as a news bulletin writer before getting involved in the station’s news programmes. In April 2009, he was elected as deputy station manager and served in that role for the 2009/2010 academic year. His roles include liaising with staff, completing station rosters, and maintaining the studio computer software. He also updates the DCUfm website.

Since 2005, Alan has regularly written for the Carlow Nationalist, mainly covering sport, and has also contributed video material to their website. In secondary school, he was involved in youth politics as part of the Comhairle na nÓg on local level, and served for two years as a member of the national Dáil na nÓg. In 2007, Alan was a finalist in the national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year schools’ competition.

Niall O’Connor – News Director

21-year-old Niall is Wicklow native and is in his last year of the BA in Journalism.

Niall joined DCUfm in 2009 as a bulletin writer and news reader. Niall has also worked with DCU’s newspaper, The College View, and in 2009 he became the News Editor. After leaving that role he returned to the station and began co-presenting one of DCUfm’s flagship News shows, ‘Newswire’, with Louise Mac Sweeney. That show was award a Hybrid for Best News & Current Affairs production of the year.

Stephen Long – Sport editor

Stephen (20) is from Waterford and is a third year student of the BA in Communication Studies.

He began working on DCUfm in 2008 as a member of the station’s sports team before he was appointed Sports Editor in October 2009. He looks after all the sports content on the station during the week and oversees the production of Action Replay, DCUfm’s flagship sports chat show.

Stephen is a diehard Waterford hurling fan and currently works part-time as a sports presenter with Beat 102-103. He also works as a sports journalist with heineken.ie for the Heineken Cup and is the current chairman of the DCU Squash Club. Outside of sport he is a DCU Student Ambassador, a member of the Irish Youth Choir and has played piano from an early age.
