11am- Count in NI is Underway – Cait

The count process is under way in Northern Ireland’s snap Assembly election.

 

It is the second contest in less than a year and with a turnout that has been higher than expected.

 

Count staff in eight centres began the process of verifying used ballot papers at 8am. Counting in earnest will commence after that.

 

The first results are due early in the afternoon, with some of the 18 constituency counts set to extend into Saturday.

12pm – Mother and baby remains in Tuam – Leanne Hanafin

 

A state inquiry being carried out on a former mother-and-baby home has found significant quantities of human remains in what appears to be a septic tank in Tuam, Co. Galway.

 

Remains were discovered in 17/20 tanks on the site. The mother-and-baby home was open from 1925 to 1961, and the commission of investigation has said that these samples are likely to date from the 1950s.

 

The commission has stated that it was shocked by these discoveries and the investigation is ongoing.

 

2pm – Bus Eireann calls on Trade Unions to discuss the dispute – Megan Kavanagh

Bus Eireann are urging that the trade Unions involved in the dispute engage in talks at The Workplace Relations Commission ahead of the strikes due to start This Monday 6th of March.

 

The strikes are set to cost the company €500000 a day reports the Irish Times

.

Spokeswoman for the company Nicola Cooke has said that Bus Eireann have written to the Unions outlining 55 measures, but the Unions aren’t engaging with them.

 

Strikes start this coming Monday and are indefinite.

The reported delivery service is already underway in places like China, Singapore and South Korea, but now, they have considered this move to branch out to the potential European market.
