Culchie Corner – 25/12/10

Dec 25, 2010   //   by Cian   //   Culchie Corner  //  No Comments

Of course we’re excited.

At exactly the least appropriate time of year, Denis kills Santa. There’s a lovely fire keeping us warm since it’s -15 degrees outside, but the lack of a fireplace is a bit of a problem. There’s Christmas ads all over the TV at the moment and a hotel in Dubai has spent €8 million on a Christmas tree.

We’re talking about what we’ve been up to “today”, and it seems like the right time of year to look back at 2010 so we’re chatting about that too.

Culchie Corner – 15/12/10

Ten episodes in, and it’s only now we’re doing an inventory of the swears we namecheck on Culchie Corner. We debate whether we can get away with it on Christmas Day and Denis says it’d be like a toasted sandwich without cheese if we didn’t.

We finally get around to the big 3-in-1 debate. Denis is trying to see who else doesn’t like Fairytale of New York. Nobody seems to hate it as much as he does though and he tries to turn off everything when Alan plays it.

Culchie Corner – 08/12/10

It’s been two weeks since the last Culchie Corner and almost the whole of Ireland is covered in snow.

We recall the huge DCU midnight snowball fight and Alan proves that looking at light can help some people sneeze. Mistakes are happening, so we listen back to a retro disaster during a live late-night news update all the way back in April 2009.

Alan’s been to see Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend, to say he enjoyed the night at The O2 would be an understatement. We also debate curry, or we try to, anyway.

Culchie Corner 24/11/10

The IMF are here, the four-year plan has just been announced. We’re angry, but we try to put that to one side.

Denis reveals that he can’t tell lies to some people. Or at least he can’t get away with it. He gets food stuck to his cheek. Alan has never had a Wham bar and says we shouldn’t raid money for DCUfm hoodies to go and buy one.

We give away a prize and call the winner live, but Denis says the winner isn’t cheery enough.

Culchie Corner – 17/11/10

Denis, for once, is in a good mood, but he still has a rant about the public and civil services. The arrival of the IMF now seems certain, but Alan’s happy with the Royal family this week.

Terminal 2 opens at Dublin Airport this week and the DAA have a new television ad to go with it. So we’re looking for things that make you proud to be Irish, and we also come up with things that Denis is never likely to genuinely say.

We talk flags and the colours a Culchie Corner flag might have.

Culchie Corner – 10/11/10

We discuss the fallout from Niall’s role on Culchie Corner last week, but Niall’s not happy with what we think. He joins us in the studio, then leaves for some reason and rings us.

Denis doesn’t like The X Factor, but what he hates even more is people giving out about it on Facebook and clogging up his news feed. Alan declares his neverending love for Konnie Huq – not because of The Xtra Factor, but because she’s hot and she was great on Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe.

Denis isn’t happy either about celebrities giving their children weird names.
