Premier League Transfers For 2015/16 Season
Well what a summer. For the first time in it’s history, the transfer window passed a massive £860 million for fees paid for football players. (That’s 8 Gareth Bales to put it in context). But what is it going to mean for the season now that we’re already four games in? Have Chelsea strengthened their shaky backline? Will Man United’s lack of a big name striker to partner Rooney hurt their title challenge? Is Petr Cech enough to help Arsenal boost their chances in Europe? Action Replay will try to answer these questions and more as we wrap up a whole summer’s transfer activity for every Premier League Club.
Best Signings: So far, we’re looking at Andre Ayew as the stand out new boy this year. Slotted in brilliantly alongside a revitalized Gomis and hit the ground running with 3 goals in his opening 5 games. With Swansea spending not a cent for the Ghanaian, this is surely the signing of the season. Despite the poor start against West Ham, Petr Cech has looked far more comfortable in recent games. A slow start was to be expected for a keeper that hadn’t played regular football but his performance against Liverpool put Arsenal fan’s worries at ease. Chelsea’s high profile daylight robbery of Pedro from the fingertips of Man United was certainly a surprise and it’s looking like a great deal for Mourinho’s men.
Worst Signings: With 2 yellow cards and 1 red card already, Alexander Mitrovic looks far for trouble than he’s worth. Steve McClaren will have a job on his hands to cool down his brand new hothead. Aston Villa fans have already turned on their new man Jordan Ayew, brother to Andre. Some lackluster performances has seen him slip behind another new boy Rudi Gestede and doesn’t look to be taking it back.
Deadline Day Surprise: Man United came out of nowhere on the famous last day with the capture of Anthony Martial from Monaco. the 19 year old becomes the most expensive teenager in English football with a huge fee of £36 million after just 52 professional appearances. Will this gamble work out for the most decorated club in England? Only time will tell. One of the other biggest stories of the day was the non-signing of Saido Berahino. The young English striker will remain at West Brom following four failed bids by Tottenham Hotspur after a day of heated discussion. Berahino made his feelings known on Twitter earlier stating he would not play at the club while the chairman Jeremy Peace was still at the club. Watch this space.
